Irish International Badminton Player Moya visits MQOI.
On our last day of term Irish Badminton Player and 5 Time National Champion, Moya Ryan, visited some of our senior classes. Moya talked to the classes about her journey in Badminton, which she began playing in primary school. She told the girls of how she was first introduced to the sport at her local community centre. When she was in 6th class pupil she received a call up to represent her country at U15 level. Moya spoke to the girls about balancing your school work and extracurricular activities, especially managing training, sleep, eating, travel and homework.
Moya went on to attend university in Dublin after finishing school and began training with the best players in Ireland at the National Sports Campus in Blanchardstown.
Moya gave us an insight into what a typical day looks like for a full-time athlete and spoke about the many countries she has been to in her career.
She also shared some of her sporting highlights from this year which included winning her 5th National Senior Badminton Title, and reaching 3 International finals in Poland, Wales and Latvia. Moya brought some of her medals to show us and we had great fun trying them on!
