L.E.A.F. Song Competition

The girls in Ms Mc Grath's 2nd Class were thrilled to hear that they came runners up in the L.E.A.F. song competition for our class entry "Go Visit our Forests!".

L.E.A.F. Ireland ran a song competition to compose lyrics to a Paul Simon song ,changing the words to make it forest/tree related. The class recorded a song which was sung to the music of Paul Simon's "The Boxer". The lyrics incorporated words about environmental issues, trees, forests and protecting species. The singer Paul Simon generously donated 25,000 dollars to the L.E.A.F. project in Ireland which is an organisation that carries out positive work on the ground to spread important messages about climate change, sustainability and biodiversity loss.

"An Taisce's Learning about Forests(L.E.A.F.) programme was chosen as Paul Simon's environmental charity in Ireland and his generous donation will directly reconnect the next generation with their environment, educating them to be more conscious of protecting it,and instilling in it's students a sense of ownership of the natural world that surrounds them"

"In each town and city in Ireland ,there are so many organisations doing great work including the work done by L.E.A.F. Ireland.Keep it up!"-Paul Simon

The girls performed for the whole school at assembly.

The children really enjoyed preparing for this competition and learnt a lot about the environment through this experience! Well done girls!smile
