A history of the Salesian Sisters in Limerick has been compiled into a new reflective book. The Book ' A Centenary of Salesian Memories' was officially launched in Fernbank on January 31st 2022.Fernbank was where the first four Salesian Sisters arrived in Limerick on October 23rd 1924.
“A Centenary of Salesian Memories” is not a detailed, comprehensive history of 100 years. Rather it tells stories of places where the Salesian Sisters lived, worked and still work. It gives a glimpse into the memories people carry in their minds and hearts. It also gives a brief history of houses and places where we lived and worked but due to societal and cultural changes we too had to adapt and move on. Photographs contained in this book tell the story of the past and of the present. Many people will find themselves reminiscing in recollections of past events and will be reminded of people they have met along the way. Some lovely artwork awakens our minds and hearts. Names of people and certain places will connect you automatically to the past or to the present.
Through the narrative and the memories recalled you will glean some of the richness of the past 100 years. These years saw the commitment of so many to the Salesian spirit. So, wherever you find your connection and your memories in these pages, this connection and memory makes you too part of the Salesian story.
